OverviewThe General tab of the Editor Configuration contains several general Editor options. The first is the "Use external Editor". By default, this feature is disabled (turned off, i.e., will not use an external editor). Clicking the checkbox will enable it and allow you to choose an alternate editor to edit your SAS® programs. Once enabled, you can use the browse box to browse for the alternate editor. If you choose to use an alternate editor, it is important to note that your changes will not be reflected in the Visualizer until you have saved the changes. The second check box in the General tab controls line numbering. By default, line numbering is enabled (i.e., turned on). Clicking the checkbox (removing the check) will disable this feature. The next few check boxes relate to printing options. The Tab Spacing option sets the width for tabs. The next option allows you to change all SAS keywords to uppercase or lowercase. This option flows from the Editor to the Visualizer, as well. The final option allows you to set an Editor width. This will provide a visual indication based on the number of characters entered. The width option is extremely helpful when editing MVS programs.
