Overview

The Editor, in Full Screen mode, displays the contents of your file beside the Navigation Bar in a wide text window. This window allows you to perform all of the basic text editing functions you would expect in the Windows® environment.  The Editor supports all the following methods for editing text:

Mouse placement of the cursor
Click-and-drag text selection
All standard Windows® key combinations for cutting, copying, and pasting

Below the text window, tabs will appear for every open SAS® program file.  By placing your mouse over the file name, you will see the full path for the open document.

Because the Editor deals with source SAS® program files intelligently, as associated groups, you may notice several tabs on top when you selected a single document to edit (e.g., the Code tab, the Log tab and the Output tab).  Whenever you edit code that has already been executed, the associated log files and output files stored in the same directory as the SAS® source code will automatically open, each in their own tab. You can switch between the tabs with a single click.  The tab with focus has highlighted text.

Also, you will notice a visual indication on the tab showing whether the log and output are synchronized with the code.  If the log and/or output are older than the code, you will see a visual indication they are not in sync.  When changes are made to the code, a visual indication will appear on the code tab indicating a save is necessary.

To make programming in the Editor more intuitive, the look of the text window is highly configurable. It can be altered to suit your individual preference for appearance, highlight colors, fonts and line numbers. You can modify each of these features by selecting the Editor Configuration from the Options menu.
