OverviewThe Site Manager tool manages all remote host or Server access activities throughout the complementSoft® ASAP application. The Document Manager and the Server use the Site Manager to capture all necessary information to make a LAN/WAN connection to a remote server using either FTP or Telnet. Parameters for different servers can be saved so that you do not have to go through the manual effort of entering this information every time a new connection is made. The Site Manager divides its window into two panels. The left side displays a tree structure, like a directory structure in Windows, that contains site configurations for all of your remote hosts and servers. By default the root directory level is called All Hosts, underneath which are the directories Home Hosts and Anonymous FTP Sites.
Features Map
Profile NameThe text displayed in the Profile Name field can either be a profile name that you selected on the left panel, or text that you just entered when creating the host. To edit an existing Profile Name, backspace over any information already in the field and make any desired changes. Changes will automatically be saved when you leave this screen (if you need to switch to the Document Manager or the Editor for some reason). To exit the update mode and store your changes without switching tools, click the Save button at the bottom of the panel. All standard Windows® text-handling options, including Copy, Cut,
and Paste, are available when editing this field. Profile Name entries can contain spaces
and other characters, but must be no more than 25 characters in length. Host AddressThe Host Address field must contain the IP address or resolvable DNS
host name of the FTP or Telnet server for this host definition. In the example above, the
location is described by its IP address of 192.168.1.4. UserThe User field must contain the login name that you intend to use to
access the hosts FTP account. If you do not have an account on the selected server,
and it accepts anonymous FTP requests, enter anonymous in this field. PasswordThe Password field must contain the password for the host FTP account. Text entered in this field is not legible for security purposes. If you are configuring a profile for a server that requires an anonymous login, leave the Password field blank. Tips:If the connection to a server is refused, re-type your password to make sure it has been entered correctly.
FTP PortThe FTP Port option is set to 21 by default, but may be changed for any profile at any time. Most servers accept FTP connection requests on port 21, but check with the site administrator to be sure. To change the port number, backspace over the default entry and type in the new one.
FTP Server TypeThe FTP Server Type is a drop down list of supported FTP Server. Telnet PortThe Telnet Port option is set to 23 by default, but may be changed for any profile at any time. Most servers accept Telnet connection requests on port 23, but check with the site administrator to be sure. To change the port number, backspace over the default entry and type in the new one. Use PASV ModePASV mode is useful for certain types of firewalls that do not allow FTP servers to initiate data connections back to the connected client.PASV mode is supported as a firewall option. This feature reverses the connection between host and server, allowing many users whose sessions are hosted behind firewalls to use the Document Manager. PASV mode FTP is what most of Internet browsers use to initiate FTP transfers.
Use FirewallIf the Use Firewall option is selected, the firewall configuration parameters from the Firewall tab of the Options Dialog will be used when initiating a connection to this profile. If the local PC resides behind a firewall that limits or restricts FTP access, enable this option and fill in the appropriate information for the firewall in use. Most firewalls require a host name and port number (the default port for FTP connections is 21), along with a user ID and password. There are differences in the methods used by firewalls to permit user activity. The "Firewall Type" box permits you to select the command required by your firewall when initiating an FTP session from the Site Manager. If the firewall requires the "User" or "Open" command (upper or lower case sensitive), click the appropriate option to enable it.
